Coping with not having your children home during the holidays

The holiday season is a difficult time for some people, especially those who have children who won't be home for the holidays. This is something that can be challenging for parents. The first holiday season might be the most difficult for many people.

No matter what is going on this holiday season, there are ways that you can deal with being alone. Here are some tips that might help you cope:

Get out of the house

You need to get out of your house. This can help you to find new things to explore and to make memories. Enjoy heading out to explore the holiday magic in your city. Special events, such as tree lighting ceremonies or similar opportunities can help you get in the holiday spirit. You might also want to volunteer somewhere to help you give back to your community. This can also help you remember how fortunate you are in, even in your current circumstances.

Invite people over

Host a gathering at your home. It doesn't have to be an extravagant party if you aren't up for that. Instead, it can be a movie night with your most trusted friends. The idea is to surround yourself with support to help knock out the lonely feelings that you might suffer from around this time of year.

Make sure you take the time to review your child custody agreement. This can give you an idea of when your children will be home with you and when they are going to be gone with your ex. You can make your plans from then.
